The company was founded by three professionals Jim Scapa, George Christ and Mark Kistner. It was founded in the year 1985. The company has it’s most of the centers in detroit, Michigan in USA. The headquarter of the company is recently shifted to Troy, Michigan. It has regional offices in lot of places of America, Europe and Asia.

Altair Engineering has a major industry of CAE software, product design and development services and grip computing services. Presently Jim Scapa is the president and chief executive officer of the company and CTO and CFO of the company are Jim Brancheau and Ken Elston respectively. Major products of the commercial software division of Altair is HyperWorks line of software which includes “optistruct” which is an optimization software, “MotionSlove” which is multibody solver, “Radioss” which is FEA solver. upto the year 2008, the company has approximately 1200 employees.
